The Effects of Cola on Your Body After One Hour

cola is the world's most popular soft drink, with about 1.7 billion serving of cola products consumed every day. Although the drink is popular, and seemingly refreshing, its effects on your health may be serious and in many respects non-reversible. Here's what happens to your body when you drink an ice cold glass of cola.
coca cola

Let's being with the ingredients of cola. One can of cola has about 10 teaspoons of sugar, 150 calories, 30-55 milligrams of caffeine and is loaded with harmful artificial flavors and coloring. The major culprit in the cola ingredient list, however, is high-fructose corn syrup, and we'll tell you why.

High fructose corn syrup is derived from fructose, a cheaper sweetener made from corn. The harmful thing about fructose is not only its high sugar content, which has been linked with diabetes and a number of other liver problems, but its effect on your metabolic rate, meaning the pace at which you absorb and digest food. So although you may think that a can of cola will help you better digest the food you are eating, it may actually inhibit your digestive process. Of course, this amount of sugar has other effects on your health, so it is best to shy completely away from high fructose corn syrup!

cola also contains phosphoric acid. Acid is, of course, the last thing that we want to be putting in our bodies because it harms the body's ability to use calcium and can lead to a softening of teeth and bones, and eventually osteoporosis.

So what happens in your body after you drink a glass of cola...

In the first 10 minutes:
The 10 teaspoons of sugar in the can of cola begin to hit your body. This is actually the total daily amount of sugar you are meant to consume, so you would imagine that your body needs to prepare itself. You don't immediately vomit from the overwhelming sweetness because the phosphoric acid cuts the flavor and allows you to keep it down.

After 20 minutes:
Your blood sugar levels begin to spike, causing an insulin burst. Your liver responds to this by turning any sugar it can get its hands on into fat, and there's plenty of sugar at that particular moment.

After 40 minutes:
Your body has completely absorbed all of the caffeine. Your pupils begin to dilate, your blood pressure rises, and as a response your liver dumps even more sugar into your bloodstream.

After 45 minutes: Your body ups is dopamine production that stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain. This is actually the same way that heroine works!

After about 60 minutes: The phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in your lower intestine, giving a momentary boost to your metabolism. Also, the caffeine's diuretic properties come into play, making you feel the need to relieve yourself.

Finally, once all of these processes stop and the cola has seemingly passed through your system, you will experience a sugar crash. This may make you irritable or sluggish, and maybe leave you feeling thirsty as you have already gotten rid of all of the water in the cola.  At this point, you will probably reach for your next cola and then it's back to the beginning.

So before you reach for your next can of cola remember that one moment of refreshing taste has a long list of consequences that can have serious effects on your health.

15 Extra Uses for the Banana

Bananas are known as 'energy bombs' with very high nutritional values. It holds a multitude of vitamins, including vitamin A, vitamin C, many of the vitamin B family, potassium and three natural sugars - Sucrose, fructose and glucose. But if you thought nutrition is where the role of the banana ends, think again...
1. Shining shoes
If you happen to be out of shoe polish, don't worry. After you've finished eating the banana, use the peel. Remove the remnants of the banana from within and then rub the inside of the peel on your shoe. To finish, use a paper towel.
2. Kick your smoking habit
The banana can help people stop smoking. The vitamins B12, B6 and the minerals potassium and magnesium found in the banana, help the body overcome the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

3. Treating Bunions
Vinegar and cosmetic creams can dry painful and ugly bunions, but when these aren't available or too expensive, a banana will also do the trick. Squish the banana and rub it on the affected area. You can use the peel to rub it on the skin, while some wrap the inner side of the peel around the bunion and leave it for the night.

4. Soothing stings and bites
The sugars in the banana peel will sooth an itchy and annoying mosquito bite, as well as the redness that accompanies it.

5. A solution for Aphids
Aphids can be very annoying when they attack your flowers and garden. Take a few pieces of banana peel and bury them about 1-2 cm deep around the base of the plant. Do NOT use the fruit itself, or else you will attract even more hungry insects.

6. Eases heartburn
The banana has natural anti-oxidants that may relieve your heartburn. Eat a banana to cool down.

7. Tenderizing meat
If you want to tenderize meat while thawing it, wrap it in banana leaves. This also works for fish. While cooking, add a ripe banana to help them soften, and add a sweet flavor while you're at it.

8. Relieving PMS pain
The B vitamins found in the banana regulate the levels of sugar in the blood, which directly affects the general feeling and mood. The potassium in the fruit neutralizes the swelling and the liquid build-up.

9. Make that hangover go away
After a harsh night of drinking, boil a cup of water and put 2 banana peels in it. Wait for it to cool and drink.

10. Treating bloody hemorrhoids
Steam 2 bananas with the peel, until they soften. Eat on an empty stomach, morning and evening, until relief is achieved.

11. Improving your quality of sleep
Bananas come with a great vitamin B6 boost that helps maintain a normal and functional sleep/Wake mechanism. Eat a small banana every day to get quality sleep.

12. Substitute for vitamin D
Research shows that a lack of vitamin D (the one we get from being exposed to sunlight) is a big contributor to depression. Since during winter this is hard to get, it is recommended to get your vitamin D elsewhere. Other than milk, fish and avocado, banana is a great source for that.

13. Return moisture to a tired face
To moisturize your dry skin, use a banana paste to relax the skin.

Here is a simple recipe:
2 spoons of almond oil
1 ripe banana
1 Egg yolk

Mash the banana with a fork and remove the thick pieces. Add egg yolk and almond oil and mix well. Wash your face and dry with a clean towel. Then put the mix on your face and leave for 20 minutes. Wash your face with cold water and dry well.

14. Helps fight anemia
The vitamin B family found in bananas encourage the creation of hemoglobin and help prevent and treat anemia.

15. Whitening teeth
Despite their yellow color, bananas can actually help whiten your teeth. Research shows that the minerals in the banana peel, such as potassium and bromine, help whiten the teeth naturally without leaving damage.

Cut the peel into little pieces, rub the inner part of the banana in circular motions on the teeth for 2-3 minutes and then don't touch for 15 minutes (don't eat, drink or rinse). Then rinse well. In a few weeks of this daily treatment, you will see great results.

Foods that help you sleep better

Sleep deficiency is one of the most common problems faced by people of all ages these days. Popping pills is dangerous, so why not try something natural and healthy? Go from being a nocturnal creature to a sound sleeper by making some small changes in your diet.

Bananas
Bananas contain potassium, which relax the muscles. Vitamin B6, which bananas are loaded with, increases your body's melatonin levels, thereby helping treat chronic insomnia.

Cherry
Drinking cherry juice in the morning aids in sleeping as it contains large amounts of melatonin, which helps regulate the body's sleep and energy cycles. Grape is another fruit that has high levels of melatonin.

Cereal
Snacking on a bowl of low-sugar, whole-grain cereal is a good idea. Complex carbohydrate-rich foods up the amounts of tryptophan in the bloodstream, which in turn helps you sleep.

Almonds
Almonds, which are high in magnesium, promote sleep and relax the muscles. They also supply proteins that help maintain a stable blood sugar level while one is asleep, and promote sleep by switching from an alert adrenaline cycle to the rest-and-digest cycle.

Sweet potatoes
High in potassium and complex proteins, sweet potatoes relax muscles and induce sleep. Consuming them on a daily basis has shown to lead to better sleep.

Warm milk
A good ol' glass of warm milk actually does work wonders. Research has found that combining milk with a carbohydrate-rich food like oatmeal, granola or toast makes it much more effective. It's also high in calcium and other minerals, known to have a relaxing effect.

Honey
Glucose, which is found aplenty in honey, tells your brain to shut off orexin, which is a chemical that is known to trigger alertness. But, don't overdo it; just one tablespoon of honey is enough for a good night's sleep.

Dark chocolate
Ditch milk chocolate and nibble on some dark chocolate instead, as it contains serotonin, which relaxes your body and mind, and induces sleep.

[www.keralites.net] Re: [Pattars] -Regarding WhatsApp Group - KAIR

Your Group seems to be  totally different from the one already existing and run by the original

Kerala Iyers' Group under the guidance of Dr. Kasi and Ms Annapoorni.

IMHO iso having a separate KAIR for CARE of Kerala Iyers', you must think of merging

your proposed Group into Kerala Iyers' )Pattars') Group in the interest of cohesion.

    Thank you,

    Dear Moderator,

Hope members will forgive me for the comment, but it appears not many seem to go through the posts in our Kerala Iyers Forum - as the query below reveals.

Only yesterday, I had forwarded the full details  of the proposal to set up the WhatsApp Group by the organiser some three months back, which incidentally was duplicated by some technical hitch of the computer a little later (n.b. I  am in no way connected with the proposal)

The parameters and conditions for admission are clearly and unambiguously set out.

Hope all such doubts/queries in future will find  answers in this again repeat. And a plea once more to the Promoter to set out
again details  - as well as the current status of the set-up to keep members updated - if he thinks fit.

My apologies once again to those who may feel offended.

    Thank you

    NN
