10 Tips For Surviving The Summer

The summer is at its strongest and it feels like you're just melting away. I know how that feels, so I gathered up a bunch of useful tips to help you keep your summer cool!
1. Dryer Sheets Keep Gnats Away
Did you know that Dryer Sheets have a chemical in them that repels gnats? This was shown in a recent study on HortScience! Keep one in your pocket instead of using bug-spray.
2. Freeze Aloe Vera Gel in an Ice Tray
You know that Aloe Vera is fantastic at treating various skin irritations like mosquito bites, burns, jellyfish stings and sunburns, but did you know that by freezing Aloe Vera gel in as ice-cubes is even more effective at relieving the irritation, thanks to the extra cooling of the ice?
3. Keep Your Feet Cool
Your feet carry you all day, but did you know that they also have a powerful effect on your body-temperature. Our feet is where a lot of circulation happens, so they can really make you warm. Soak them in cold water and feel how quickly your body cools down!
4. Quickly Cool Down Beverages
All you need is a bowl of water & paper sheets! Soak a paper sheet in water, wrap it around a beverage container (cans/bottles) and pop it in the freezer for about 10 minutes.

5. Dripping Popsicles? No Problem!
Grab a cupcake wrapper, slip the popsicle into it and PRESTO! No more sticky fingers!

6. Freeze Some Grapes
Want to keep your wine cold but don't want to dilute it with ice? Simply put some grapes in the freezer, then put them in the wine, it'll stay nice and chilled. (They're also fun to eat frozen)

7. Treat Mosquito Bites With Vinegar
Yup, that's right! Lightly soak a cotton ball with vinegar, then hold it tightly on the fresh mosquito bite – it will reduce the itching and swelling until it's gone. (psst! It also works on sunburns).

8. Keep hydrated by eating!
The kids are refusing to drink water? Why not put a watermelon in the fridge.
Rich in water (about 92% of it, actually), it's also very nutritious and delicious. Your little ones will feel like they're getting a treat while you make sure they're keeping well hydrated!

9. Drink a cup of hot tea
Yes, that's right! While you think that it's better to drink a cold beverage on a hot summer's day, a hot cup of tea will raise your core temperature, and once you're done, you'll actually feel cooler!

10. Eat spicy foods
Ever wondered why they eat such spicy food down in Mexico when it's so hot? The answer is similar to #9 – The chemical in the spicy food (Capsaicin) "tricks" your mouth into thinking it's eating something hot, which, in turn – raises your body temperature and makes you feel cooler.

5 Bonus pet tips:
1. If the asphalt is too hot for your feet – it's too hot for your dog.

2.  An ice cube in the water-bowl goes a long way – An ice cube with a treat in it makes an awesome summer snack!

3.  Brush your dog/cat's fur – this provides better circulation and cools them down.

4.  Keep the indoors cool – if you can't stand the heat inside, your pet can't as-well.

5.  NEVER EVER leave your pet in the car on a hot day! They can't cool themselves as efficiently as we can, so they can be in terrible danger.
Enjoy your summer!

What Does Your Sleeping Position Mean?

Forget about hobbies, personality tests, online profiles and alike. If you really want to know the person, check when they are most unaware - during sleep. So which of these 7 positions is yours, and what does it say about you?

male sleeping positions
Position: Lying on your stomach with hands up around the pillow and head turned to one side.

Personality: Freefallers are often extroverted and brash people. They appear nervy, but are truly thin-skinned people who take criticism personally.

Health Benefit: Freefall—or any position in which you're lying face down—is good for digestion.

The Fetus Position
male sleeping positions
Position: Curled up on your side. This is the most common sleeping position, adopted by 41 percent of the 1,000 people who took part in Professor Idzikowski's survey.

Personality: Those who sleep in the fetus are described as tough on the outside, but shy and sensitive at heart. They may take time to warm up to people, but soon relax.

Health Benefit: Sleeping on your left side can cause stress on your vital organs (liver, stomach, lungs), so if fetus is your position of choice, curl up on the right side of your body.

The Log Position
male sleeping positions
Position: Lying on your side with both arms down by your side.

Personality: Log sleepers are social, easygoing people. The downside: their tendency to trust anyone—including complete strangers—makes them easy to fool.

Health Benefit: This position keeps the spine straight, which should be beneficial for those who suffer from back pain.

The Yearner Position
male sleeping positions
On your side with both arms out in front. Personality: Yearners are open to new things, but also suspicious and cynical. They take a long time to make decisions – weighing pros and cons repeatedly – but once they make a choice, they almost never change their mind or have regrets. Health Benefit: Resting on your side can help alleviate some problems associated with acid reflux disease and sleep apnea. But if such symptoms are a common occurrence, you may need to see a specialist.

The Soldier Position
male sleeping positions
Position: Lying on your back with both arms at your sides.

Personality: Soldier sleepers are generally quiet and reserved. They don't like to make a big deal out of things, and they set very high standards for themselves and others.

Health Benefit: Research shows that sleeping on your back may lead to snoring, difficulty breathing, and an overall bad night's sleep. Is your snoring keeping someone awake at night? Try flipping over—you'll both wake up more refreshed.

The Starfish Position

male sleeping positions
Position:  Lying on your back with both arms up.

Personality: Starfish sleepers are described as great listeners and thus good friends. They're always willing to offer help and generally don't like being in the limelight.

Health Benefit: Like the soldier, starfish sleepers are more likely to snore and have breathing problems while they sleep, resulting in a less refreshing night's rest.

Get the facts right

As the coronavirus cases spike in the country, people are getting influenced by

misleading information that is being circulated on WhatsApp.

Don't believe in rumours

Don't believe in rumours

One such rumour doing the rounds has been that the Coronavirus infection can spread through newspapers. At a time when people are following social distancing for fear of contracting the virus from an infected person, these rumours are only making the situation worse and creating panic.

Newspaper can't spread the virus!

Newspaper can't spread the virus!

Health experts have strongly refuted claims of the virus spreading through newspapers or for that matter packages received from ecommerce players or couriers. A report in The Economic Times quoted Nivedita Gupta, chief epidemiologist at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), as saying that Covid-19 is a "respiratory infection" and there is "no risk" of catching it through newspapers and packages.

How does the Coronavirus spread?

How does the Coronavirus spread?

The virus spreads from person to person when an infected person sprays droplets into the air that contain the virus and another person taking them in while breathing. Doctors have also ruled out that the virus is airborne.

How long can the virus survive on surface?

How long can the virus survive on surface?

"Survivability of the virus on cardboard surfaces is quite low as compared to metal or steel; hence there is no chance of the virus being spread through newspapers," Dr Randeep Guleria said.
