6 Foods That Will Protect Your Skin

There are many ways to protect out skin. We can use special lotions that enhance our skin's natural defenses, but they don't last very long and require re-applying. They can also add up to quite the expense. You can wear protective clothes, but in the summer it gets hot and stuffy. You can stay home but that takes all the fun out of your summer.
Here's another idea - eat right. These 6 foods each contribute something to the fight between your skin and the harmful UV rays of the sun. Learn about the foods that protect your skin and fight against damage and the formation of cancer.

1. Strawberries vs. wrinkles

Strawberries have one of the largest concentration of vitamin C and have the power to hold off wrinkles as well as help prevent the loss of skin elasticity that comes with the years. These are the findings of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The power of vitamin C to hold off wrinkles comes from its ability to get rid of those free radicals created by the sun's ultra violet rays as well as its role in manufacturing collagen, the material most responsible for the health and vitality of our skin. You can find lots of vitamin C in red peppers, broccoli and citrus fruit as well.

2. Coffee vs. Skin Cancer

A study published at a European Journal of Cancer discovered that a cup of coffee once a day can decrease the risk of skin cancer. The study checked 93 thousand women and discovered that a daily dose of coffee significantly reduced the risk of skin cancer. The caffeine, also existing to a lesser degree in tea, helps kill off pre-cancer cells and damaged skin cells by blocking the protein they need to make fast replications (which lead to cancer).

3. Tomatoes vs. Sun damage

The red color of the tomato is its secret weapon for protection from the sun's harmful rays. It is a pigment, a carotenoid called lycophen that filters the radiation of the sun and prevents the tomato from being damaged. This same effect works for the human body as well, as proven by a study that examined how an addition of tomato sauce to your daily diet affects the skin's resiliency.

The study discovered that 2.5 table spoons of tomato sauce a day were enough to significantly decrease the damage our skin took from the sun. This same effect can be achieved by drinking 1 and 2/3 of a glass of carrot juice every day. Carrots also contain carotenoid pigments. In fact, all red-orange foods will give this result, such as pumpkins, certain yams etc.

4. Soy beans vs. Flabby skin

Soy is rich in a group of chemcial compounds called Isoflavones. A recent American study found that these compounds help prevent wrinkles that occur as a result of ultra violet radiation. The isoflavones prevent the deconstruction of collagen, the material that keeps our skin tight and flexible. This compound exists in all soy products, such as soy milk, tofu etc.

5. Corn vs. Sun Damage

Corn has a yellow pigment called Lutein which is quite similar to the pigment found in tomatoes. Like the tomatoes, this is a chemical mechanism humans can benefit from, and the pigment supplies the skin with the protection it needs against the sun's rays. Lutein can also be found in egg yolk and spinach, and it not only helps the skin, but also the eyes, keeping them safer from macular damage.

6. Salmon Vs. Pre-Cancer cells

The omega-3 fatty acid found in salmon has many health properties. One of the most important one if protecting our cells form free radicals caused by UV light. Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition kept track of 1,100 Australians, who get a lot of sun exposure, for 5 years, checking their eating habits. Findings showed a whopping decrease of 30% in the formation of pre-cancer cells for those living on a diet rich in fish with high omega-3 levels, such as salmon, tuna and sardines. In addition, omega-3 helps the body keep its collagen levels.

[www.keralites.net] : HOW TO REDUCE YOUR CHOLESTEROL LEVELS

How to Reduce Your Cholesterol Levels!

Before blaming family genetics, or panic over the latest blood test, it's important to first remember that cholesterol is, first and foremost, an essential molecule, without it there would be no life, and also - that we have the ability to influence the level of cholesterol in our bodies.
The level of cholesterol in our body is a result of the process of creating cholesterol by the liver. In fact, over 85% of our cholesterol is created by the liver. The rest comes from eating animal products: Beef, chicken, fish, eggs and dairy.

The body is an amazing system, and if a healthy body creates cholesterol, then it is indeed an essential material in our bodies:
-  Cholesterol is used to build needed steroids.
- Cholesterol is used to build hormones like estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.
- Cholesterol is vital for the creation of vitamin D.
- The membrane of every cell in our body contains cholesterol.
When there's too much cholesterol
A situation of higher than normal levels of cholesterol can be worrying, because it may build inside the blood vessels and cause coronary diseases, which may lead to heart attacks or stroke.
As of today, the normal range of cholesterol in the body is up to 200 mg.
The common medicine to take care of additional cholesterol delay the enzyme that takes part in the process of creating cholesterol in the liver so in fact we limit the rate of building our own cholesterol. But is it logical for us to limit the internal creation of cholesterol without addressing the external source? Nutrition will always be at the forefront of dealing with a surplus of cholesterol.

How can we reduce the levels of cholesterol?
- Reducing or eliminating animal foods: Beef, chicken, fish, eggs, dairy products and especially foods rich in fat and cholesterol.
eggs
- Consuming Phytosterolsthat come from vegetation. Phytosterols have a similar chemical structure to cholesterol and because of this similarity they both compete for absorption by the lower intestine, and so consuming them will reduce the amount of cholesterol absorbed.  A good daily amount would be 1.5-2.5 grams a day.
Best sources for Phytosterols: Sesame oil and corn oil but also grains, nuts and seeds: wheat germ, flax seed, wheat bran, peanuts, almonds and cashews, fruits and vegetables: beets, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, onions, oranges and legumes: peas and beans. Legumes and grains are a good source of proteins instead of the fat rich foods.
- Staying away from trans-fats. Trans fat also appears as vegetable oil that has gone through hydrogenation in order to make it harder. This fat is not recommended at all and you'd be best staying clear of it. It is mainly found in processed foods such as margarine, puff pastry, pastries such as croissants, and processed cakes and cookies.

A few more tips...
- Consuming anti-oxidants will help limit the oxidation of cholesterol and consuming them will help getting the cholesterol off  the artery walls.
- Consuming soluble fibers, which are abundant in full wheat products, oatmeal, vegetables and fruit. These absorb conversion salts in the digestion system and the body then uses cholesterol to make new ones, thus reducing the amount of cholesterol in the blood stream.
- Daily exercise.  We know it's tough, but you'll thank us when you get less bad cholesterol, and more good cholesterol.

Tea Isn't Just For Drinking, It Has Many Other Uses!

There's nothing like a hot cup of tea, especially on a cold day. Not only does tea warm the body and give us inner peace, it also fights cancer, lowers the risk of stroke and helps our cells fight aging. However, if you thought that is where the usefulness of this drink ends, you are sorely mistaken...

Here are 16 other things that you can do with tea:

1. Tired Eyes

Tired and red eyes can be caused by irritation, too much crying or simple tiredness. While ice badges or cucumber slices are a workable solution, tea bags get you the same results but are also warm and pleasant. Put them in hot water, allow them to cool a bit and then place them on the eyelids like a compress.

2. Improving the taste of meat

Meat tastes great when properly cooked, but when not, it can become stale, hard and dry. Here is an effective solution to the problem: Use used tea bags to make a marinade that will restore its flavor. Soaking hard meat in black tea can also soften it again.

3. Cleaning wood surfaces

Tea can be a great and gentle cleaning material for wood floors and surfaces. Wipe the wood surfaces or furniture with a clean cloth soaked in cool tea water, then use a clean and dry towel to prevent stains.

4. Removing fat and dirt

The astringency of the tea will reduce the fatty buildup in pots and pans. Just soak the used tea bag in the container you wish to clean.

5. Cleaning Rugs

Clean moldy and dirty rugs by spreading some used (dry) tea leaves on it. Leave them be for 10 minutes and then vacuum the rug. If these are delicate carpets, you can brush the tea leaves gently away.

6. Cleaning fatty fingerprints from glass

Tea can remove those pesky fingerprints from glass, and make it shine. Just rub a moist tea bag on the glass surface, then use a spray bottle filled with tea water and wipe.

7. Cleaning the toilet

Use tea to remove stubborn stains in the bottom of the toilet. Soak several bags of tea for several hours in the toilet water and then remove them gently and brush the sides.

8. Getting rid of fish smell

To get rid of that overpowering smell of fish, wash your hands in tea water.

9. Air freshener

Bags of tea can absorb those bad odors in the pantry, in your shoes or in your car. Put a few tea bags on a tray and put them in the closet, shoe or car. Let them absorb the odors.

10. Getting rid of bad foot odor

If you suffer from stinky feet, soak them for 20 minutes in a tea bath. Use black tea for extreme caes. The stringency in the tea will close the sweat glands that give off the smell and that tanin will kill the bacteria.

11. Removing warts and blisters

Soak a tea bag in water and put it on the blister for 20-30 minutes. Make sure to throw away the bag afterwards.

12. Diminishing mouth ulcers.

Get your mouth wounds to heal faster by gently biting a used tea bag. The healing powers of the tea will reduce the pain, shring the blood vessels and stop the bleeding.

13. Treating burns

If you suffer from a really bad case of acne or irritated skin from a burn or sun tanning, use used tea bags to bring relief. Wash the areas burnt with a cold tea bag, but if most of the skin needs it, make a bath of tea water

14. Treat acne

Many find that washing your face with a cool brew of green tea is an effective solution for acne.

15. Avoiding fleas

To turn back fleas from your dog or cat, spread some dry and used tea leaves around the place they sleep.

16. Softening and dying your hair

Washing your hair with a cup of tea can make it shiny and soft to the touch. However, if your hair is light colored, it may turn it darker, which is perfect if you want to dye it.

============================

Benefits of Green Tea

Green tea is helpful in fighting rheumatoid arthritis, infection, lowering stress and blood pressure, protecting against heart disease, diabetes and brain damage, building bone density, minimizing the risk of a heart attack, protects the kidneys and liver.
