The pineal gland is one of the smallest and most important endocrine glands in the body. Located in the center of the brain close to the more well-known pituitary gland, the pineal gland gets its name from its characteristic pine cone shape. It is also known as the pineal organ, the pineal body or the "third eye". This small gland controls your body's sleep-wake pattern. However, due to lots of factors, calcification of pineal gland can occur, hampering brain function. Remedies to decalcify the brain should immediately be taken.

Pineal Gland Function

image001The pineal gland has several critical functions including secretion of melatonin the hormone that causes sleepiness and regulation of certain endocrine functions. The gland also helps the body to convert signals from the nervous system to signals in the endocrine system.

Physiological Function

Physiologically, in conjunction with the hypothalamus gland, the pineal gland controls the sex drive, hunger, thirst and the biological clock which determines the body's normal aging process.
The primary function is that pineal gland secretes melatonin. This hormone is the primary one that controls your sleepiness and wakefulness. Natural light tends to turn this gland on. When the pineal gland is activated, your brain moves from sleeping to a state of wakefulness. This process is sometimes referred to as the awakening of the "Third Eye" – a common name for the pineal gland.

Spiritual Connection

This concept of the pineal gland as the "Third Eye" has long been seen as a link between the spiritual and physical worlds. In addition to the important physiological functions of the pineal gland, this is the part of the brain that has traditionally been considered to be the seat of higher consciousness and a link to the metaphysical world.. It is the pineal gland that seems to be most affected during meditation and visualization yoga and all other forms of "out of the body travel".

Pineal Gland Calcification

Pineal gland calcification is a great cause for concern because it seems to happen at a very young age. In this process, the pineal gland accumulates calcium phosphate crystals, becomes hardened, and loses much of its functionality.

Causes of calcification

There is a great deal of speculation as to what causes calcification of the pineal gland. Fluoride in water and toothpaste has been implicated in this process. In fact, many people believe that any food additives including artificial sweeteners may contribute to the problem. Although studies are not available to support the claim, the radiation from cell phones has also been cited as a possible cause of calcification of the pineal gland.

Importance of Activating/ Decalcifying Pineal Gland

It is important to keep the pineal gland active because of the activity of this gland. When it is active, the pineal gland helps you to get good sleep – and helps you to be wide awake during the day. An active pineal gland will also ensure that neurological signals are clearly transmitted to the endocrine system. In addition to other functions, this can help promote better hormonal control.
Spiritually, an open third eye also brings to you bliss, intuition, concentration, clarity and decisiveness. With a highly functioning pineal gland, your physical and mental functioning will be improved.

How to Decalcify Pineal Gland

If pineal gland calcification is an issue, it is important to take a few steps to begin to decalcify your pineal gland. Watch a video to learn how to decalcify your pineal gland and then read on for more details.

1. No Fluoride

If you assume that fluoride contributes to calcification of the pineal gland, it is important to avoid fluoride in water and food. When possible, eat organic foods and drink liquids that do not have fluoride added to them. Cooking with water containing fluoride can also add that chemical to the food you eat. Use untreated water when possible. Limit things like fluoride-containing tap water, red meat, sodas and artificial foods and drinks.

2. Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

The malic acid in raw apple cider vinegar can be used to help detoxify your body including the pineal gland. Be sure that the apple cider vinegar supplement you buy is raw and not processed. In addition to helping decalcify the pineal gland, raw apple cider vinegar can help your digestive system process foods better.

3. Oregano Oil and Neem Extract

Oregano and Neem extract may help decalcify the pineal gland, purify other parts of the endocrine system, fortify the immune system, and act as a natural antibiotic in the body. In India, neem has been used to decalcify pineal gland, or open the third eye for thousands of years.

4. Essentials Oils

Essential oils may help to stimulate the pineal gland and decalcify it. Specifically, lavender, parsley, pine, sandalwood, pink lotus, and frankincense may be helpful in the decalcification process. Used in a diffuser or added to warm bath water, these oils can help open up the pineal gland.

5. Regular Meditation and Chanting

Meditation, yoga and chanting may help decalcify the pineal gland by stimulating the gland through resonance in the nasal bones. As the calcium crystals are broken up in the gland, the increased secretions can wash away the calcification. It is desired to chant for 10 minutes daily or however long you'd like to.

[www.keralites.net] MANASAMITRA VATIKA

Ancient Ayurveda Beats Clonazepam in Clinical Trial for Severe AnxietyRealnatural Ancient Ayurveda Beats Clonazepam in Clinical Trial for Severe Anxiety Articles, Health
Manasamitra Vataka
By Case Adams, Naturopath
Researchers from India have proven in a randomized clinical study using international protocols that an ancient Ayurveda remedy for anxiety outperformed the benzodiazepine drug Clonazepam (Konopin) in relieving anxiety.
The researchers, from India's National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), tested 72 patients in a hospital setting who were diagnosed with severe generalized anxiety disorder using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). The test subjects were all adults between 20 and 55 years old of both sexes and most had experienced their anxiety disorder for seven years or more. They were also diagnosed with comorbid generalized social phobia.
The researchers randomly divided the patients into three groups. One group was given the standard anti-anxiety medication Clonazepam (Klonopin) at the standard prescriptive dose of .75 milligrams per day (.25mg morning, .50mg night). Another group received 200 milligrams of an Ayurvedic herbal remedy called Manasamitra Vataka (also Manasamitra Vatakam) – in two doses (100 mg each).
A third group was given the same dosage of Manasamitra Vataka but this was added to the patients' receiving an Ayurvedic treatment called Shirodhara therapy – where warmed Brahmi taila oil is poured onto the forehead of the patient.
The patients each continued their treatments for 30 days, and were evaluated at day 15 and day 30. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) testing was conducted along with Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) analysis of the patients' progress.
At the end of thirty days' treatment, the researchers found that the Manasamitra Vataka group on average had a 73% improved disposition according to the BAI testing, while the Clonazepam group on average improved 67% using the same scale. Using the HARS test scale, those patients receiving the Manasamitra Vataka plus the Shirodhara therapy saw a 91% average improvement in symptoms, while the Clonazepam group experienced a 76% improvement.

The researchers concluded that the Ayurvedic treatment not only exceeded the performance of the benzodiazepine, but came with no side effects. The researchers noted:
"Thirty days of treatment with Manasamitra Vataka reduced the anxiety, severity of the disease, increased quality of life and improved clinical profile significantly. Shirodhara as an add-on therapy to Manasamitra Vataka decreased the daytime sleepiness and improved the quality of life in the patients."
Manasamitra Vataka is an ancient and complex Ayurvedic formula
The Manasamitra Vataka formula consists of up to 73 natural ingredients including many herbal
Ayurveda is the world's oldest ongoing medicine, with a 5,000-year plus history of treating patients with various diseases. The first recorded surgery was also done by Ayurvedic physicians.
The complexity of the Manasamitra Vataka formula is an indication of the intellectual and scientific depth of Ayurveda. Many of the herbs listed above, such as Tulasi (Tulasidala above) – also called Holy Basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum or Ocimum sanctum) – have been shown in independent studies to calm and soothe the nerves.
For example, in 2008, a clinical trial of 35 subjects diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder found that Tulasi (Ocimum sanctum) significantly reduced anxiety at day 30 and day 60 of treatment with 500 milligrams, twice per day. The researchers stated:
"Therefore, it may be concluded that O. sanctum may be useful in the treatment of General Anxiety Disorder in humans and may be a promising anxiolytic agent in near future."

[www.keralites.net] How To Handle Hiccups

 How to handle hiccups
Why they happen and how to make them stop

Hiccups are annoying, and there are plenty of
old wives' tales about how to get rid of them.
But when you've been stuck with them for twenty minutes, you'd rather know
what remedies really work – and how to keep the hiccups at bay next time.
Where do they come from?
Hiccups start when your diaphragm suddenly contracts,
followed by the flap at the top of your windpipe - the glottis -
closing, producing the 'hic' sound.
Mostly, they are caused by eating or drinking too much or too fast,
eating spicy foods, alcohol, sudden excitement or temperature changes.
Some scientists think they harken back to our more amphibious ancestors,
who had to draw water over their gills without it entering the lungs.
This same mechanism lets babies suck milk without inhaling it.
For most people, though, hiccups serve no real purpose.
But if you've wolfed down your dinner, or gasped in surprise,
don't be surprised if hiccups follow.
Any kind of emotional turmoil, be it excitement, anxiety or stress,
has also been known to contribute to short-term hiccups.
Men and women are equally likely to experience them.
Persistent hiccups
Most hiccups go away on their own. If hiccups last longer than 48 hours -
which is rare - they're called persistent or protracted. If they're still there a month
or more later, your hiccups are known as intractable.
These long-term types, while very rare, are more common in men and might be a sign of
something more serious, such as an affliction of your diaphragm, larynx or eardrum.
Long-term cases can also be brought on by nerve traumas like stroke, tumours or meningitis,
by metabolic disorders or by addictions to alcohol and other drugs.
Eighty per cent of long-term cases have an identifiable cause, while the remaining
twenty per cent are thought to be psychological in nature.
How to get rid of them In the case of your everyday hiccups, you should
expect them to go away on their own within a few minutes.
While there is no guaranteed way to kick a case of hiccups, there are a few easy home remedies
that ought to help. These cures range from holding your breath or breathing into a paper bag
to sipping cold water or gargling with ice water.
You can close your ears while drinking an entire glass of water in one go through a straw.
(If nothing else, onlookers might get a laugh out of this – but researchers have expressed confidence in it.)
If you're holding your breath and feel a hiccup coming on, swallow around it.
You can also try swallowing with your nose closed.
Eating dry bread or swallowing a teaspoon of sugar might also work.
And to get a little more invasive, try tickling the soft palate in the back of the roof of
your mouth with a cotton ball, or pulling hard on your tongue.
And next time, of course – remember to savour your food, rather than scoffing it!
