Re: [www.keralites.net] SOME ANCIENT INDIA DISCOVERIES CONFIRMED BY THE FOREIGNERS

All these are something  which we Indians should be proud .  Westerners call these non western foundation of Modern science ( as mentioned below). These discoveries should be seen as percussors of Modern science not as something revealed only to Indians by our Gods . Our ancients had good powers of observation and logical thinking. Let us try to revive our accomplishments in logical / rational thinking. West has gone far ahead of us on the strength of their rational thinking. We have lost our way and our far behind them now , as we have moved away from rational thinking. Rationalists are murdered and no one seems to be too bothered about it . Rational thinking in all walks of life will restore our past glory, Dreaming and gloating of our ancient past does not get us anywhere.

Allen Peter

SOME ANCIENT INDIAN DISCOVERIES CONFIRMED  BY THE FOREIGNERS

Science
What ancient India discovered and invented!
https://www.yahoo.com/style/ancient-india-really-discovered-invented-110605019.html

The debate on the achievements of ancient India in science and technology continues unabated. There have been assertions, some seemingly outlandish, and counter-assertions. For instance, Union minister of science and technology, Dr Harsh Vardhan's statement that the Pythagoras theorem and algebra were ancient India's contribution was pooh-poohed as stretching the facts. Is it really so? Or, is their something in the contentions? We bring you the contribution of the ancient Indians – the ones acknowledged and beyond reproach. Take a peek!
1. The age of the earth
An early metrical work of Hinduism, Manusmriti, calculates the age of the earth as described in two verses where the age of earth is made in reference to the life span of Brahma. (Brahma is revered as the god of creation in Hinduism).
Professor Arthur Holmes, a geologist and a professor at the University of Durham writes in his book, The Age of Earth (1913), "Long before it became a scientific aspiration to estimate the age of the earth, many elaborate systems of the world chronology had been devised by the sages of antiquity. The most remarkable of these occult time-scales is that of the ancient Hindus, whose astonishing concept of the earth's duration has been traced back to Manusmriti, a sacred book."
In the 5th century, the ancients Indians had stated that the earth was 4.3 billion years as compared to the Europeans who believed that our planet was about 100 million years old. But modern science has calculated the age of the earth to be about 4.6 billion years, incredibly close to the 4.3 predicted by the ancients almost 15 centuries earlier.
Today, scientists across the world believe that the solar system and the earth is about 4.54 billion years, deciphered by the radiometric reading.

2. Concept of relativity
Alan Watts, a professor, graduate school dean and research fellow of Harvard University, drew heavily on the insights of Vedanta. He said, "To the philosophers of India, however, Relativity is no new discovery, just as the concept of light years is no matter for astonishment to people used to thinking of time in millions of kalpas - A kalpa is about 4,320,000 years."

3. Trigonometry and optics
Varāhamihira, an astronomer, mathematician, and astrologer, of the 5th century defined the concepts of refraction and reflection. He also defined the algebraic properties of zero as well as of negative numbers. A L Basham, an Australian Indologist, writes in his book, The Wonder That was India, "The world owes most to India in the realm of mathematics, which was developed in the Gupta period to a stage more advanced than that reached by any other nation of antiquity."

4. Discovery of gravity
More than 5,000 year-old, Rig Veda stated through verses that the gravitational force held the universe together and the sun was at the center of the universe; thousands of years before Newton and Copernicus discovered it. This finding is supported by an American writer, Dick Teresi, in his book – Lost Discoveries. The book is a comprehensive study of the ancient non-western foundations of modern science.

5. Pythagoras theorem
It was ancient Indian mathematician Baudhāyana who wrote about a theorem similar to the modern Pythagoras theorem in the book Baudhāyana Śulbasûtra in 800 BC. The book is also said to be the oldest books on advanced mathematics. It is also speculated that Pythagoras travelled extensively and even visited India, after which he is said have revealed the Pythagoras theorem. In a six-page essay on the book written by Kim Plofker, Mathematics in India, ( a western historian of mathematics), Brown University Mathematician, David Mumford, writes, "There is the use of Pythagoras' famous theorem in the construction of pillars in India, some centuries before the Greek philosopher is said to have postulated it."

6. The zero
The so called Arabic numerals and positional decimal numeral system, originated in India. However, it was popularized by the Arabs, who later took it to the west. The superiority of this number system stems from the fact that the roman numerals did not have a zero, making it difficult to carry out mathematical calculations. It was Aryabhata, who is said to have discovered zero and clearly defined the usage of decimal system. He names the first 10 decimal places and gives algorithms for obtaining square and cubic roots, utilizing the decimal number system. Marquis Pierre Simon de Laplace, an 18thcentury French mathematician, philosopher, and astronomer, stated, "It is India which gave us the ingenious method of expressing all numbers by 10 symbols."

7. Cotton fabric
The fibre that clothes the modern world, finds its mention in a Rig Veda hymn as "threads in the loom." Historians also believe that when Alexander invaded India, his soldiers found the new fabric, cotton, much more comfortable that the traditional leather and wool that they were used to. They then popularized the fabric in ancient Europe. Herodotus, an ancient Greek historian, describes Indian cotton as "a wool exceeding in beauty and goodness that of sheep."

8. High-quality steel
Ancient India's expertise is metallurgy is reiterated in the form of its architecture marvels. It was said that as early as 200 BC, high quality steel was being produced in India, through what the Europeans would call as the crucible technique.
William James Durant, an American writer, historian, and philosopher writes in his famous book, The Story of Civilization, "Something has been said about the chemical excellence of cast iron in ancient India, and about the high industrial development of the Gupta times, when India was looked to, even by Imperial Rome, as the most skilled of the nations. By the sixth century the Hindus were far ahead of Europe in industrial chemistry; they were masters of calcinations, distillation, sublimation, steaming, fixation, the production of light without heat, the mixing of anesthetic and soporific powders, and the preparation of metallic salts, compounds and alloys. The tempering of steel was brought in ancient India to a perfection unknown in Europe till our own times."

9. Takshashila University
Around 800 BC, a giant University at Takshashila (often called Taxila) existed in the north-western region of India. At that time even the concept of University was unknown to the world.
Joseph Needham, a British scientist, historian and sinologist known for his scientific research and writing, wrote in his book, Within the Four Seas: The Dialogue of East and West, "When the men of Alexander the Great came to Taxila in India in the fourth century BC they found a university there the like of which had not been seen in Greece, a university which taught the three Vedas and the eighteen accomplishments and was still existing when the Chinese pilgrim Fa-Hsien went there about AD 400."

10. Chess (Chaturanga)
Chaturanga is a Sanskrit word which was used to refer to an ancient Indian strategy game, the ancestor to Makruk, Xiangqi, Janggi and finally the modern game of chess. It was said to have been developed during the Gupta period between 6th and 7th century AD in India.  The game, primarily based on a battle plan, comprised of four parts of the army – elephants, chariots, horses and foot soldier; apart from the king and the minister.
Harold James Ruthven Murray, an English educationalist and a prominent chess historian was among the first few modern historians who proposed the theory that chess originated in India. Published in 1913, A History of Chess, is a comprehensive book on the subject.

[www.keralites.net] Mr and Mrs Meenakshi-mami: The cutest couple in the world of pickles ( 76 and 70 years )

Mr and Mrs Meenakshi-mami: The cutest couple in the world of pickles :- Vedapuri Subramaniam is a lean, wiry, young entrepreneur of 76. His wife Meenakshi, turns 70 this year. Their day usually begins before sunrise at about 5am and winds up at about 10.30pm. "Yes, I do get tired," says Subramaniam, with a touch of defiance, "but I don't care. I don't call this my home. This is my factory." A large part of his Navi Mumbai residence has been turned into a processing unit of sorts. Rows of large, cylindrical plastic cans, filled with pickles, have been lined up.

Mr and Mrs Meenakshi-mami: The cutest couple in the world of pickles

"We made avakaya pickle just last week," says Meenakshi. The Andhra avakaya pickle has to be stirred every day for at least six weeks. The stirring bit is Subramaniam's responsibility, while his wife checks for taste. "It's almost like how guests at a wedding tell the host that the sambar needs a dash of salt, or the rasam is too tangy so some water can be added to adjust its taste," says Meenakshi.

Subramaniam left his home town Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu in the mid-1950s to work in the food manufacturing industry in Mumbai, and supplied ingredients to various companies that made pickles and ready-to-eat foods for close to four decades. "If you see how some of the biggest companies make pickles, you wouldn't want to eat them," he says. "This is why I ensure that cleanliness is the most important aspect of my pickle-making."

Is There Effective Ayurvedic Treatment For Chronic Kidney Disease?
The scariest thing about Kidney Disease is that most people suffering from it aren't aware of it!!!
Kidney diseases are explained in Ayurveda under mutra vaha sroto dushti, mutraghata, mutrakrcchra, ashmari and prameha. There are various kidney diseases and one among them is CKD- Chronic kidney disease.
What is chronic kidney disease?
Chronic kidney disease is also called chronic kidney failure. It is a condition in which the kidneys fail to adequately filter waste products from the blood. Your kidneys filter wastes and excess fluids from your blood which are then excreted in your urine. When chronic kidney disease reaches an advanced stage, dangerous levels of fluid, electrolytes and wastes can build up in your body. Chronic kidney failure may be progressive and irreversible.
What are the causes for chronic kidney disease?
Uncontrolled diabetes and high blood pressure
Autoimmune diseases like HIV
Genetic diseases like polycystic kidney disease
Injuries to kidney
Prolonged intake of some medicines
Interstitial nephritis, an inflammation of the kidney's tubules and surrounding structures
Prolonged obstruction of the urinary tract, from conditions such as enlarged prostate, kidney stones and some cancers
Vesicoureteral reflux, a condition that causes urine to back up into your kidneys
Recurrent kidney infection, also called pyelonephritis
What are the factors that increase your risk of chronic kidney disease?
Diabetes
High blood pressure
Heart disease
Smoking
Obesity
High cholesterol
Family history of kidney disease
What are the symptoms of chronic kidney disease?
Chronic kidney disease develops slowly. Initially there may be no symptoms. Below symptoms develop gradually once the accumulation of the waste products begin in the body.
Loss of appetite , bad taste in the mouth
Vomiting and diarrohea
Nausea
Weight loss and weakness
Variation in the frequency of urination
Blood in the urine, foamy or bubbly urine
Swelling of the legs, ankles, feet, face and hands
Difficulty in sleeping, lethargy and confusion
Darkening of the skin, itching
Shortness of breath due to extra fluid in the lungs
Abnormal heart rhythms
How can chronic kidney disease be diagnosed?
The diagnosis of kidney failure usually is made by blood tests measuring Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN), creatinine and glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
How can chronic kidney disease be treated?
The goal of treatment is to prevent or further slow down the damage to your kidneys. Treatment of the underlying cause of kidney failure may return kidney function to normal.
If the kidneys fail completely, the only treatment options available may be dialysis or kidney transplantation.
What is Kidney Dialysis?
Kidney dialysis is a life-support treatment that uses a special machine to filter harmful wastes, salt and excess fluid from your blood.
There are two types of dialysis -haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
Patients often need dialysis treatments several times a week. Frequency of the dialysis depends on your level of kidney functioning, your body weight, amount of waste and fluid gathered in your blood since your last dialysis session.
Dialysis costs a lot of money. If your kidneys have failed, you will need to have dialysis treatment for your whole life unless you are able to get a kidney transplant.
How can kidney failure be prevented?
Lifelong efforts to control blood pressure and diabetes may be the best way to prevent chronic kidney disease and its progression to kidney failure.
Tips to follow-
Eat meals that are low in fat and cholesterol.
Get regular exercise
Keep your blood sugar and blood pressure under control.
Avoid eating too much salt or potassium
Give up smoking and alcohol intake
Limit fluid intake
Eat less protein
Is Ayurveda safe for Chronic Kidney Disease patients?
Definitely yes!
It is a commonly feared fact that Ayurvedic medicines contain heavy metals and are not suitable for certain medical conditions!
There are various Ayurvedic medicines which help to prevent the further deterioration of your kidneys.
They may also help decrease the frequency of dialysis.
Ayurvedic treatments significantly correct albuminuria and serum creatinine value and improve the renal function.
Ayurvedic medicines are usually safe and well-tolerated when prescribed by a qualified and knowledgeable Ayurvedic practitioner. However, some Ayurvedic preparations may risk toxicity when they are not manufactured according to the standards. Most of the time, people go by advertisements while buying medicines, instead of consulting qualified Ayurvedic doctors.
Few Ayurvedic medicines contain heavy metals called Rasaoushadis. These medicines are prepared after performing vigorous purifying techniques described in the Ayurvedic texts. There is a lot of research done at different levels to prove that a medicine is safe. Ayurvedic medicines have dosage and one must adhere to it. It is always safe to consult an eminent ayurvedic practitioner before taking any medicines.
Below are the Ayurvedic formulations which are beneficial in Chronic Kidney Disease-
Kashayams – Dashamoola kashayam, Punarnavadi kashayam, Mustadi kashayam and Brithyadi kashayam.
Tablets – Punarnavadi guggulu, Gokshuradi guggulu and Chandra prabha vati.
If CKD is caused due to uncontrolled blood sugar the following medicines are effective-
Nisa katakadi kashayam or Kataka kadhiradi kashayam.
Triphala and Musta churna- Mix Triphala churna and musta churna in equal proportion. Boil 1 tsp of churna in 1 glass of water and reduce to half glass. Drink twice a day before meals.
Nisha amalaki churna paniya- Soak 1 tsp of nisha amalaki churna in 1 glass of water overnight and drink next day morning in empty stomach.
Herbal teas that strengthen your kidneys
Grind and mix equal amount of musta, fennel seeds, cumin and coriander seeds. Boil 1 tsp of this powder in 1 glass of water and reduce to half glass. Drink twice a day.
Prepare a mixture of Punarnava- 1 part, gokshura- 1 part, fennel seed – 1 part. Take 1 tsp of this mixture 2 or 3 times a day after meals with warm water.
Here is a warning for those habitual pill-poppers!
Over-use of any drug may cause kidney damage. A drug that causes damage to the kidneys is called as a 'nephrotoxic drug.' Any sort of damage to the kidneys can make them inefficient to filter out the toxins it is exposed to everyday. These toxins then start accumulating in various tissues of the body and can even cause death. Most people are habitual pill -poppers, assuming nothing untoward will ever happen to them. A study highlighted that use of over-the-counter and prescription medications accounts for about 20 percent of cases of acute renal failure.
Improper and prolonged use of Allopathic drugs may damage your kidneys. Be aware!
Pain killers or analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) may lead to end stage kidney disease.
Certain drugs used in high blood pressure, anticonvulsants, malaria-treating drugs, and certain antibiotics have shown to favour renal failure.
Chemotherapy drugs
People who are diabetic or have cardiovascular diseases often take multiple medications which increase their chances of kidney damage
Intake of few dietary supplements may also be a cause.
Prevention of kidney damage-
Since you may not be able to avoid taking medicines under certain conditions, here are a few ways in which you can reduce damage to your kidneys-
Avoid self medication
While taking over-the-counter drugs, check labels for warnings
Avoid habituating yourself to particular medicines such as sleeping pills or painkillers. Instead follow a healthy lifestyle, meditation and natural therapies like shiro dhara, abhyanga, etc.
Long-term consumption of drugs should be only under supervision.
Make sure you are taking appropriate dosage.
Drink adequate fluids to flush out the toxins.
Consume natural foods to avoid artificial nutrition supplements.
According to Ayurveda, there are thirteen types of natural urges in the body which should not be suppressed. These are the natural calls from body, which a person must attend to, as and when they appear in order to maintain the balance in the body and to prevent the manifestation of diseases. Urge to pass urine is one among them.
In our modern lifestyle, we find ourselves forcefully suppress the urge for urination while travelling due to unavailability of toilets, watching a favourite show in TV, etc. Prolonged suppression causes-
Pain in bladder and genital region
Pain and difficulty in micturition
Headache
Stone formation
Distension of lower abdomen
Avoid the suppression of urge to urinate and prevent the diseases.
Superficially the function of kidney seems to make urine, but it is no exaggeration to say kidneys are the master chemists to maintain our internal environment. A healthy outside starts from the inside. Follow a healthy life style to protect your kidneys for yourself and also others.
Almost 600,000 patients per year in the United States and an estimated 2 million patients worldwide are affected by end stage kidney disease. More than 90,000 patients in the United States are on the kidney transplant list, but each year there are less than 20,000 available donor kidneys. The need for donor kidneys is rising at 8% per year.
"You were born with the ability to change someone's life. Don't waste it. Become an organ donor".

No cardiac probleb but let us be sure_ Cardiac Doctor.  No Uro problem but let us be sure- Urologist  Finally thank God settled down with Gastro. Ate a lot of pills , more than my food. All scopical exam. Finally  after six months ai was relieved .Unimaginable stress , fret and fuming!

This was a classic  Dental case.! Many thanks.Humour in it's best form and reality of first order.

Thanks.

Doctor vs Dentist!!!!!

A dentist was understandably nervous at his first extraction. His hand shook as he got the molar out. He lost grip on the instrument, and the tooth trickled down the patient';s throat. "Sorry...." said the doctor, "you're outside my specialty now. See a laryngologist, [throat specialist]."

By the time the unfortunate victim got to the laryngologist, the tooth had worked its way much further down. The laryngologist examined the man. "Sorry...."said the doctor, "you're outside my specialty now. You should see a gastroenterologist! [stomach specialist]."

The gastroenterologist X-rayed the patient. "Sorry...." said the doctor, " the tooth has traveled into your lower intestines. You should see an entomologist! [intestinal specialist]."

The entomologist took some X rays. "Sorry, the tooth isn't there. It must have gone down farther. You should see a proctologist! [a specialist in diseases of the rectum;].

Our patient is now on the proctologist's examining table, in the proper elbow-knee position. The doctor has inserted a proctoscope and is looking through it....

[www.keralites.net] HOW GOD ANSWERS OUR PRAYERS

How God Answers our Prayers?
Amazing Story…
Dr. Ahmed, a well-known doctor, was once on his way to an important medical conference in another city where-in he was going to be granted an award for medical research he had recently done. He was very excited to attend the conference and was desperate to reach as soon as possible. He had worked long and hard on his research and felt his efforts deserved the award he was about to obtain. However, two hours after the plane took off, the pilot announced that there was a problem with the plane and that they were going to make an emergency landing at the nearest airport. Afraid that he wouldn't make it in time for the conference, Dr. Ahmed immediately went to the help desk as soon as the plane landed and explained to the woman at the desk that he was expected to be at a very important conference and that he needed to know the immediate next flight to his destination.
She told him that there was nothing she could do to help him as there wouldn't be another flight to his destination for another ten hours; but suggested he rent a car and drive down to the city as it was only four hours away.
Having no other choice, he agreed to the idea despite his hatred for driving long distances.
Dr. Ahmed rented a car and started his journey. However, soon after he left, the weather suddenly changed and a heavy storm began. The pouring rain made it very difficult for him to see and he missed a turn he was supposed to take.
After two hours of driving, he was convinced he was lost. Driving in the heavy rain on a deserted road, feeling hungry and tired, he frantically began to look for any sign of civilization. After some time, he finally came across a small tattered house. Desperate, he got out of the car and knocked on the door.
An old woman opened the door for him. He explained his situation and asked if he could use her telephone. She told him that she didn't have a phone or electricity but that he was welcome to come in for some food and something warm to drink as he had completely lost his way and that it would take him some time to get back on the right road.
Hungry, wet and exhausted, the doctor accepted her kind offer and walked in. The woman told him to help himself to some food and hot tea on the table and then excused herself to finish her prayers.
Sitting on the table sipping his tea, the doctor watched the woman in the dim light of candles as she prayed next to what appeared to be a small baby crib.
Every time she finished a prayer, she would start another one. Feeling that the woman might be in need of help, the doctor seized the opportunity to speak as soon as she finished her prayers and told her that he hoped God would answer her prayers. He then said that he noticed that she had been making a lot of prayers and asked if there was something she needed that he could get for her or help her with.
The woman smiled and said that god had answered all her prayers except one. She said she didn't know why God hadn't answered this specific prayer yet but perhaps it was because of her weak faith. The doctor asked if she didn't mind telling him what she needed. Nodding her head in approval, she said that the child in the crib was her grandson. She said that the child had a very rare type of cancer and that all the doctors she had seen were unable to treat him. She also said that she had been told that there was a doctor who specialized in the type of cancer her grandson had, but there was no way for her to get to this doctor as he lived very far from her; so she has been spending her days and nights praying to God to help her find a way to get to Dr. Ahmed - the doctor who could treat her grandson.
Upon hearing her words, tears began to flow down the doctor's cheeks and he said: God is great, there was malfunction in the plane, a thunderstorm hit, and I lost my way; and all of this happened because God did not just answered your prayer by helping you find a way to get to Dr. Ahmed, but he brought Dr. Ahmed to your house. I am Dr. Ahmed.
Tears streaming down her cheeks, the woman raised her hands prayed "Oh God, how great.."
With kind regards,
