[www.keralites.net] Landing gear FALLS OFF Boeing 737 cargo plane

Landing gear FALLS OFF Boeing 737 cargo plane

Crash investigators have released a photo that reveals the aftermath of a plane's dramatic landing at East Midlands Airport.
A set of wheels broke off the Boeing 737 moments after it touched down at the airport, near Derby, causing the cargo plane to skid along the runway for 380ft before coming to a stop.
It happened as the plane delivered 10 tonnes of freight, including dangerous goods, on an Air Contractors flight that originated in Athens and included a stopover at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris.

The cargo planes left main landing gear detached due to heat damage to chrome plating, a report said

The plane's 38-year-old captain and co-pilot escaped injury, and there were no passengers on board when the left main landing gear detached.
The plane, manufactured in 1990, suffered significant damage to its left wing and engine as it slid along the runway in darkness on the morning of April 29, 2014, according to an Air Accidents Investigation Branch report.
As the plane landed its speed was reduced and the co-pilot handed control to the captain, who pressed on the brakes twice to disengage the autobrake system.

The touchdown was 'unremarkable' and the autobrake functioned normally, according to the report, but the left main landing gear came off when an inner cylinder, just above the axle, fractured as a result of heat damage to chrome plating.
The report stated: 'The aircraft shuddered and rolled slightly left-wing-low as the lower part of the main landing gear detached.'
It said that the source of the heat could not be determined.

The report cited concerns about communications between air traffic control and other agencies
As the plane came to a stop its flight crew feared that it would burst into flames, with the co-pilot and the pilot of a different plane reporting smoke to air traffic control.
The report stated: 'The co-pilot saw some smoke drift past the aircraft as it came to a halt. The commander … had reached the conclusion that one of the main landing gear legs had failed, but as a result of the other pilot's transmission, he was also concerned that the aircraft might be on fire.'
The captain shut down the engines and switched off the battery as firefighters attended the scene, but the plane did not catch fire.
Firefighters placed a ladder against the door to allow the captain and co-pilot to disembark, and they sprayed foam around the landing gear and engine as a precaution.
The report cited concerns about communications between air traffic control and other agencies, and said the airport operator issued a safety bulletin with a reminder of emergency protocols and procedures.
The landing gear overhaul company carried out a review as a precaution, as it was not clear how or when the chrome plating damage occurred.

[www.keralites.net] Police raid Thane cyber cafe offering 'sex cubicles' to teenage students

Police raid Thane cyber cafe offering 'sex cubicles' to teenage students

A cyber café near Mumbai was offering more than access to internet service.
Strategically located near one of the largest colleges of Mumbai University, the café had small dingy cabins that offered complete privacy to young students who came in pairs.
When the police raided the cyber café near the Smt Chandibai Himathmal Mansukhani College in Thane on Tuesday evening, they were shocked to find young couples aged 15-20 years in compromising positions.

The ATC of the Thane Police raided a cyber café near Chandibai Himathmal Mansukhani College

In a video, which was recorded during the raid, it can be seen that students were given privacy in cubicles which are merely 4X3 sq ft in size.
All the accused have been booked under section 294 (obscene act) of the Indian Penal Code.
Inspector Sampat Nirmal, who led the Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC) team said: "During raid we found couples involved in obscene acts. We have arrested 24 people including cyber café owner Lallan Shah, manager Niranjan and 11 couples."
Nirmal said the cyber café owner was running a sex racket as he had 20 cabins but only three computers.
According to the police who were part of the raiding team, some locals from Ulhasnagar had recently approached the local police station with complaints that some cyber cafés' near the college were providing 'services' similar to the lodges to young students.

Sources said that since the local police did not take any action, they had approached joint commissioner of police (Thane) VV Laxminarayan, who directed the ATC to raid the cafés.
When asked why the local police did not take action even after repeated complaints from people residing in the area, deputy commissioner of police (Ulhasnagar) Vasant Jadhav did not give any convincing answer.
Sources said both the cyber cafés' raided by the ATC were illegal as they did not have valid licences.
"They were run illegally for over six-seven years. The owner had also built a mezzanine floor inside the cyber café that had a bed for customers. Besides this, they also use to sell condoms and emergency contraceptive pills to the customers."
The college authorities said that it could not be ascertained whether the students seen the video belonged to their college.
"We cannot recognise them to be of our college. They could be from other colleges in the area or even from outside," said a senior teacher of the college on the condition of anonymity as he/she was not authorised to talk to the media.
However, the teacher expressed concern over the fact that such places are not only accessible to adult students but also minor students of junior college and schools.
