Why Mother is always so Special?

When I came home in the Rain,

*Father asked : "why didn't u
take an umbrella??"

*Sister advised : "why didn't u
wait till the rain stopped??"

*Brother angrily warned: "Only
after getting a cold u will
realize!!"

*But Mother, while drying my
hair, said:
"Stupid Rain! couldn't it wait till
my child camehome…??!!

That's why! All mothers are
special, GOD bless them.

[www.keralites.net] Iran earthquake

The Iran earthquake measured at 6.3 magnitude and left one village completely destroyed, according to a Red Crescent official. The nearby Buschehr nuclear plant was undamaged, according to Iranian officials and the Russian company that built the plant.

The Iran earthquake was particularly devastating due to the fact that many houses in local rural areas are made of mud bricks that crumble easily during quakes. Fereydoun Hassanvad, the governor of Bushehr province, told Mehr news agency that around 700 homes were destroyed in the Iran earthquake.

[www.keralites.net] Khatte-mitten khabhrain from around the world for 10/4/13

The gudi, a long pole which has at the top an inverted silver or copper pot, is most important and essential to all Gudi Padwa celebrations. After all, it symbolises the victory flag representing Lord Ram's victory over Ravan and his subsequent return to Ayodhya. The gudi hoisted in the villages are indeed grand and tall. It is generally a bamboo pole on the top of which a bright, colourful cloth (generally yellow or green) with a zari border is tied. It is adorned with coconuts, sweets, mango, neem leaves and marigold flowers. An inverted jug of water, generally made of copper or silver, is placed over this. Everyone worships the gudi after the customary oil bath. If the celebration is in a locality or an open space, sometimes, the boys and men form a pyramid and break the coconut placed in the gudi. While one cannot deny that the village celebrations are grand indeed, city folks have also not entirely discarded their traditions and celebrate this occasion in a very special way. The gudis are erected on the right side of the main entrance of the house on a swastika rangoli with turmeric and vermilion used in them. The area is decorated with mango leaves and rangolis. Most people dress up in traditional clothes during the occasion. Local delicacies like puran poli, soonth pak, shrikhand form a major part of the festivities.

Aggressive prostate cancer gene identified.

Prostate cancers spread more quickly and are more often fatal in men who have inherited a faulty BRCA2 gene, a new study has warned.  Such patients need immediate surgery or radiotherapy rather than being placed under surveillance, as their disease is more aggressive than other type.

Indian man stabs his ex-wife to death in Italy…

Rome: An Indian-origin man, Kumar Raj, 37, has been arrested in Italy for murdering his Italian ex-wife Francesca, 57, and her daughter Martina Incocciati, 19, in their home in the village of Flora in Central Italy last Saturday.  The Haryana native attacked the two after a dispute over money that he owed Grazia for helping him gain Italian citizenship.

(Comment: (1) hmmm. One has quite often heard of the murky marriage-of-convenience that many Asians resorted to, a short-term "arrangement" whereby the foreigner lady is offered fat monetary incentives in exchange for these Asians getting permanent foreign citizenship. (2) Rumour mills suggest that the Haryana state government must plead their son-of-the-soil's case with the union government for a barter deal with their Italian counterpart to release him in exchange for the two Italian marines…)

[www.keralites.net] Speed Reading - Very Important Technique for Professionals

By: Brandon C. Hall

Speed reading is not just a parlor trick you can use to impress your friends and family. For many it's a necessary tool for managing time and information in the fast-paced business world, and for many others, specifically students, it's the only way to get through reading-heavy class loads.

The practiced speed reader can pick up a lengthy document or a thick stack of papers and use their skill to get at the meat of the subject by skimming for the most important details and information. Without developing the ability to speed read, this time-saving technique is merely flipping through pages fast.

Speed reading, or increasing the rate at which you read text, is linked to increasing the rate at which you understand what you're reading. The key to successful speed reading is increasing your understanding of the text as you increase the rate at which you read the words. It takes training and practice, but don't be intimidated by the idea of a challenge. Think of it as the next, natural step to your reading development. Once you've mastered it, it's a skill that will stick with you for the rest of your life.

As a child, when you began to learn to read, chances are you began with the alphabet and the specific sounds each letter makes. Then you learned how to combine and blend letter sounds to decipher words. It's called letter-by-letter reading. Then something clicked and you began to recognize words without having to sound out each letter one at a time and you graduated to word-by-word reading.

With continued practice common words and sentence structure became more familiar and because your brain was tuned and ready, your eye started taking in blocks of words at a time. The difference between average readers and speed readers is in the blocks of words their eyes take in at one time. The larger the blocks, the faster your eye moves through the text.

Speed reading teaches you how to take your reading and your comprehension to the next level. The techniques used in teaching speed reading focus on your individual abilities, namely where you are right now and what might be keeping you from progressing. For example, if you are a slow reader, factors that hold you back may include, but are not limited to, moving your lips or reading out loud or holding the text too close to your eyes.

If you are in the practice of moving your lips, or speaking or whispering while you read, you're slowing yourself down dramatically. Your lips can only move so fast. You should be able to read at least two or three times faster than you can speak. In effect, you're keeping yourself at that word-by-word stage that children generally grow out of in elementary school.

Having the ability to speed read can make a significant difference in your life, especially if reading is a strong component of your work. Implementing some simple techniques can get you reading faster and more efficiently in no time at all.
