[www.keralites.net] British Hospitals - True stories

1. A man dashes into the A&E dept. and yells . . . 'My wife's going to have her baby in the taxi'.

I grabbed my stuff, rushed out to the taxi, lifted the lady's dress and began to take off her underwear. Suddenly after protests from themlady I noticed that there were several taxis - - - and I was in the wrong one.

Submitted by Dr. Mark MacDonald , St.. Andrews Hosp. Glasgow

2. At the beginning of my shift, I placed a stethoscope on an elderly and slightly deaf female patient's anterior chest wall.

'Big breaths,'. I instructed.

'Yes, they used to be,'. . . replied the patient..

Submitted by Dr. Richard Barnes , St. Thomas's Bath

3 One day I had to be the bearer of bad news when I told a wife that her husband had died of a massive myocardial infarct.. Not more than five minutes later, I heard her on her mobile phone reporting to the rest of the family that he had died of a 'massive internal fart.'

Submitted by Dr. Susan Steinberg Royal London Hosp.

4. During a patient's two week follow-up appointment, he told me that he was having trouble with one of his medications. 'Which one ?'. . .. I asked.

'The patch; the Nurse told me to put on a new one every six hours and now I'm running out of places to put it!'

I had him quickly undress and discovered what I hoped I wouldn't see. Yes, the man had over fifty patches on his body!

Now, the instructions includes removal of the old patch before applying a new one.

Submitted by Dr. Rebecca St.. Clair , Norfolk General

5. While acquainting myself with a new elderly patient, I asked 'How long have you been bedridden?'
After a look of complete confusion she answered .'Why, not for about twenty years - when my husband was still alive.'

Submitted by Dr. Steven Swanson- Maidenhead Royal Kent

6. I was performing rounds at the hospital one morning and while checking up on a man I asked . . ... 'So how was your breakfast this morning?'

'It's very good except for the Kentucky Jelly. I can't seem to get used to the taste.' Bob replied.

I then asked to see the jelly and Bob produced a foil packet labeled 'KY Jelly.'

Submitted by Dr. Leonard J. Brandon . Bristol Infirmary.

7. A nurse was on duty in the A&E when a young woman with purple hair styled into a punk rocker Mohawk, sporting a variety of tattoos, and wearing strange clothing, entered . . It was quickly determined that the patient had acute appendicitis, so she was scheduled for an immediate operation..

When she was completely disrobed on the operating table, the staff noticed that her pubic hair had been dyed green, and above it there was a tattoo that read .. . .'Keep off the grass'

Once the surgery was completed, the surgeon wrote a short note on the patient's dressing, which read 'Sorry . . . had to mow the lawn.'

[www.keralites.net] Fight arthritis with jeera, methi and oil massage - The Institute of Ayurveda and Integrated Medicine (IAIM)

Fight arthritis with jeera, methi and oil massage

arthritis with the help of ayurveda, home remedies and a healthy diet has gained popularity over a few years now. More patients are opting for ayurveda over allopathy to control and cure arthritis, which has zero side-effects.

The Institute of Ayurveda and Integrated Medicine (IAIM) gets over 300 arthritis patients every month. The treatment is a combination of oral medication, panchkarma treatment and diet and lifestyle changes.

Said Dr G G Gangadharan, medical director, IAIM: "Ayurvedic medicines do not have side-effects like allopathic steroids and painkillers do. We have comprehensive treatment for arthritis which lasts for 7, 14 or 21 days. Thereafter, a patient is put on oral medication, oil massage and panchkarma. We also suggest some alteration in diet and lifestyle."

Your kitchen ingredients too can be your friends in fighting arthritis. Regular consumption of methi (fenugreek), jeera (cumin) and dhaniya (coriander) can help beat arthritis. Methi helps in controlling degenerative disorders. Jeera improves digestion and thereby controls obesity, while dhaniya is a good antacid and fights gas trouble.

Said Dr Satyanaraya Bhat, consultant, Home Remedies and Ayurveda: "A combination of methi, jeera and dhaniya is good to fight arthritis. This can also be consumed in raw or green form. Three of every 10 patients I see suffer from arthritis. Ayurveda and kitchen ingredients can help prevent this painful disease."

Dr Issac Mathai, medical director, Soukya, Holistic Healthcare Centre, said: "We get about 200 patients of arthritis at our centres every month, and 50% of them prefer ayurvedic medicines. Oil massages are good for controlling pain and wear and tear of joints. We use medicines like shalyaki, guggulu, sahachar, bela, kusta, rasna, nirgundi, dattura, shunti etc. to cure and control arthritis."

Eat right

Food rich in Vitamin E, calcium and oil can help prevent arthritis. Eat lots of fruits, green leafy vegetables and milk products. Fish is a good source of cod liver oil, which helps fight arthritis. Drink plenty of water, which is necessary for joint lubrication. It also helps with weight maintenance. Think of drinking water as ridding your body of toxins.

Dr Priyanka Rohatgi, president, indian dietetic association, bangalore chapter

Vitamin D and B12 are as important as calcium to fight arthritis. Face the sun for at least 45 minutes a day. Direct sunlight is a good source of Vitamin D, which maintains calcium levels in your body, and B12. Consume plenty of milk products (fat-free) and green leafy vegetables to make your bones and joints strong.

RE: [www.keralites.net] എയര്‍ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ അനാസ്‌ഥ വീണ്ടും == BOYCOTT AIR INDIA ==

Dear Ms Sumathy

We ofcourse must understand the hardships faced by the subjected man.  It should never have happend !!

But the situation is, how many people will boycott Air India ? even if some one do, for how many days ? Because they give such rates and frequency of services.  I dont think the boycott is a solution since only a few people may do it for a very short time.

Something must come from Govt to improve the situation !!

Dear Friend,

I understand your frustation about Air India but my general comment is that we should not do anything to ourselves due to which 'others' can get benefit from it.

So i suggest the members that even if they boycott Air India, they should consider any ohter indian airline instead of non-indian airlines such as gulf or saudi etc. At the end of the way, we have to think about India not any other country so that our own country can get benefit from our travel. Otherwise there will be no difference between us and the politicians :)
thanks for giving me the opportunity to speak.
i am sorry if someone didnt like my comments

Regards
Junaid

Hi all,

This refers to few mails / post from few members, asking all expats to BOYCOTT AIR INDIA...

Believe me......Only ONCE , I had experienced the "comforts" of the famous AIR INDIA...during one of my vocation trips to India...That time flight was unduly delayed, A/C was not working, and the attitude of the staff members to some of the co-passengers was too deplorable and pathetic..

That was the first and the last trip by AIR INDIA...and on all other occasions, even if I had to pay few extra money for tickets for GULF AIR or SAUDI AIRLINES or ETIHAD AIRWAYS, I had opted for that, rather than choosing AIR INDIA.. On one occasion, when the ticket fares were too high, and the only option available was AIR INDIA, I cancelled the option of travelling that year.....I thought it was not worth it...

But how many will be there as adamant as we "boast and post" our slogan to boycott AIR INDIA  ? Can we, or are we that mentally strong, as we boast & post in FB or in other columns and groups ?  If we unite, it will be really worth it... But in spite of boasting like this, don't you think that, we Malayalis are basically "soft hearted" or "weak hearted" that we will fall for some HALWA talk by the politicians ?

BOYCOTT all politicians and the so-called AIR INDIA maharaja...They don't deserve our attention ...and do believe me.. I am very proud of saying that I made that very wise decision few years back itself, "not to travel" by AIR INDIA in future.....and I do know few NRIs from Toronto and US who never opt for AIR INDIA...Join the chorus, dear friends and do make it practical.....Don't stop at respecting only our "mudeers" and "kafeels"...START HAVING SOME SELF RESPECT ON OURSELVES....Once we start respecting ourselves, the whole world will start working alright for us.....

so please at least now, start boycotting ALL POLITICIANS and the AIR INDIA .....let it be in India or abroad...let us spread this message far and wide......

wishing all members a very fruitful day ahead,
