How the heart works?

It is made up of muscles and its main purpose is to pump blood, filled with oxygen to the organs and tissues, throughout the body. The heart has 4 chambers. The upper 2 chambers are called the right atrium and left atrium. The lower 2 chambers are the right and left ventricle, and have thick muscular walls. To pump the blood the ventricles contract. Each time your heart does that it is considered one heart beat. The heart usually beats between 60-90 times per minute. This is the pulse rate. The gets the blood and oxygen from the coronary arteries. There are 2 main coronary arteries, the left and right coronary artery The left main coronary artery divides into 2 branches-the left anterior descending artery and the left circumflex artery

What is a heart disease?

When we commonly refer to 'heart disease' we mean 'coronary heart disease', which happens when blockages build up in the coronary arteries. These blockages are called atherosclerotic plaques and the process by which they build up is called atherosclerosis. This is also called 'coronary artery disease'. Other forms of heart disease include, valvular heart disease, heart failure, and disorders of heart rhythm

What is a heart attack?

A heart attack is injury or death of a part of the heart muscle. It is also called a 'myocardial infarction'. There are 2 major ways in which a heart attack can occur:-

Blockages get worse: As the blockages get larger there is less blood flow to the heart muscle. At one point the heart muscle no longer can get the blood and oxygen it needs. When the blood supply is cut off for more than about 30 minutes, the heart muscle cells begin to die, and a heart attack occurs. The atherosclerotic plaque cracks: Most heart attacks are caused as a result of 'cracking' or 'rupture' of the plaque (blockage). The plaque becomes unstable and cracks, forming a blood clot which travels and completely blocks the flow of blood through the artery, and causes a heart attack

What is angina ?

Angina is a pain or discomfort that is usually felt in the chest, and spreading to other parts of the body, such as the neck, jaw, shoulders or arms. In some cases discomfort is only felt in these areas and not in the chest at all.

Recognize the symptoms of a heart attack

The typical presentation of a heart attack is an unpleasant squeezing pain which typically occurs in the middle of the chest or the back

It often radiates to both arms or the throat and jaw, and is accompanied by sweating and / or nausea

This typical presentation does not always occur. Some may just experience heart burn, or 'stomach upset' not relieved by antacids or not related to food intake, breathlessness at rest, accompanied by a 'run down' feeling

Some may only experience chest 'pressure' and not 'pain', or pain only in the jaw, teeth or arms

Immediate steps to take

Chew a tablet of aspirin

Place a tablet of sorbitrate (nitroglycerin) under your tongue. (if you have a prescription for it)

Keep the patient calm

Rush the patient to the hospital

Cardiac Tests

ECG: This measures the electrical activity of the heart. A change in the ECG pattern can be indicative of the presence of heart disease. The doctor usually looks for two types of changes:
1. Those which indicate a block in the coronary arteries and
2. Those which indicate a problem with the rhythm of the heart beats, such as palpitations

Stress Test / Stress ECG: The stress ECG provides more information than a rest ECG since the oxygen demand on your heart is greater while exercising. A positive stress test indicates that there are changes on your ECG

Thallium Stress Test / Nuclear Medicine Stress Test: This stress test is similar to a regular stress test, but in this a dye is injected into the heart and pictures are taken of the heart, before and after the stress test.This can detect areas of the heart muscle that have been damaged by a heart attack and areas that are not getting enough oxygen due to partial blockages of the coronary arteries. Nuclear medicine tests can also provide information on the functioning of the left ventricle

What is bypass surgery ? This is a surgery in which a healthy blood vessel (artery) is used to form a detour (bypass) around a blockage in a coronary (heart) artery. The new blood vessel used is called a 'graft' and therefore the procedure is correctly termed as 'Coronary Artery Bypass Graft' surgery. The original blockage in the artery remains as it is, but now there is adequate blood supply to the heart muscle beyond the blockage. Today coronary artery bypass is one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures.

How is it done?

The 'graft' used can be either an artery or a vein. However, these days most advanced heart centers such as the Asian Heart Institute prefer to use 'arterial grafts' since they have been shown to have a longer life. Studies performed at the Cleveland Clinic by Dr. Floyd Loop and others have shown that arterial grafts remain open even after 20 years of surgery. When surgery is done only using arteries as grafts (also called 'Total Arterial Revascularization'), the chances of getting recurrence of angina are very slim, and in most cases the patient does not need a second bypass surgery. In the past 'venous grafts', usually from a vein in the leg called saphenous vein were used often, but they have a higher rate of developing fresh blockages.The most common artery used is an artery from your chest called the Left Internal Mammary Artery (LIMA). This artery is detached from the chest wall and the open end attached to the coronary artery below the blockage. The RIMA can also be used in select cases. The radial artery is another very commonly used conduit vessel in bypass surgeries. It's typically taken from the non-dominant hand.

What is 'beating heart' or off-pump surgery?

To perform this delicate surgery the surgeons always used a heart-lung machine in the past. This machine allowed the heart to be 'stopped' for a while to perform the grafting. However, over the past few years some of the surgeons also perform the surgery on a 'beating heart' and do not use the heart-lung machine. In this method a device called 'OCTUPUS' is used and the surgery is done while the heart is beating. This method has several advantages but is technically more demanding. At the Asian Heart Institute almost all surgeries are done on the beating heart and have resulted in the patients spending less time in the ICU, less blood transfusions and complications as well as a shorter hospital stay.

Women and Heart Disease

Ask any woman which disease is she most afraid of, and the reply you will usually get is 'breast cancer'. The reality however is very different; heart disease kills more women than any other disease. This comes as a surprise to most, as heart disease was always thought to be a 'man's disease'. In fact, women are as much at risk for heart disease as men are, but are protected by their hormones till they reach menopause.

Another sad statistic is that a much larger percentage (42%) of women die within one year after having a heart attack, as compared to men (24%). The reasons for this are not well understood. One possible explanation is that women tend to get heart disease later in life and are therefore more likely to have coexisting chronic conditions. Some other little-known facts about women and heart disease are:

Safety Tips

Women who smoke are at a risk of having a heart attack 19 years earlier than non-smoking women

Women with diabetes are three to seven times more likely to have heart attacks

Women are almost twice as likely as men to die after by-pass surgery

Women often do not have the typical symptoms of angina (chest pain radiating to the arms) or other symptoms associated with a heart attack. Therefore they are often not diagnosed correctly and in appropriate time

Women are 20% more likely than men to die in the hospital following a heart attack

Women receive less aggressive treatment than men for their heart disease

HORMONE-REPLACEMENT THERAPY

One area of women's health which has perhaps generated the maximum amount of controversy and confusion is hormone replacement therapy. Until recently it was thought that this therapy consisting of estrogen and progestin in varying combinations was protective for the heart. However, results from recent studies have contradicted these findings. The current scientific recommendations for hormone replacement are:

This therapy should be started only after consultation with a physician, preferably the gynecologist

Relief from the symptoms of menopause should be the primary reason for taking hormone replacement therapy

Hormone therapy should not be used to prevent heart disease

Hormone therapies have been shown to help build stronger bones; however, women should weigh the risks of hormone therapy before taking it to prevent osteoporosis

പെണ്‍കുട്ടികളുടെ ആത്മഹത്യ: അന്വേഷണം നടന്നിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് കോളേജ് പ്രിന്‍സിപ്പല്‍

കോഴിക്കോട്: കോഴിക്കോട് പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്ത സംഭവത്തില്‍ പോലീസ് ഒരിക്കല്‍ പോലും ഔദ്യോഗികമായി തന്റെ മൊഴി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടില്ലെന്ന് എം.ഇ.എസ് കോളേജ് പ്രിന്‍സിപ്പല്‍ സീതാലക്ഷ്മി. മുമ്പ് നടന്ന അന്വേഷണത്തിലോ, ഇപ്പോഴത്തെ അന്വേഷണത്തിലോ ഒരിക്കല്‍ പോലും തന്നെ ചോദ്യം ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ലെന്നും അവര്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്ത സമയത്ത് പോലീസ് അന്വേഷണത്തിനായി കോളേജിലെത്തിയിരുന്നു. കോളേജിലെത്തിയ ഇവര്‍ അടുത്ത സുഹൃത്തുക്കളായ ചില കുട്ടികളെ കമ്മീഷണറുടെ ഓഫീസിലേക്ക് വിളിച്ച് കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ചോദിക്കുക മാത്രമാണ് ചെയ്തത്. ഇവരുടെ മൊഴി പോലീസ് രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടില്ല. ഇതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് സ്‌ക്കൂളിലെ അധ്യാപകരോടോ പ്രിന്‍സിപ്പിലനിനോടോ പോലീസ് സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. ഇപ്പോള്‍ കേസ് അന്വേഷിക്കുന്ന പ്രത്യേക അന്വേഷണ സംഘവും കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ ചോദിക്കാനായി തങ്ങളെ സമീപിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. തങ്ങളുടെ മൊഴിയെടുക്കാതെയാണ് അന്വേഷണ സംഘം ഇതുസംബന്ധിച്ച റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ട് നല്‍കിയിരിക്കുന്നതെന്നും അവര്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്ത പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ മാതൃകാ വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥികളായിരുന്നു. ഇരുവരും നന്നായി പാടുമായിരുന്നു. ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്ത ദിവസം വൈകുന്നേരം പീരിയഡ് ഓഫായിരുന്നു. അന്ന് ഇവരെ കൊണ്ട് പാട്ടുപാടിച്ചിരുന്നു. പാട്ടുപാടിയശേഷം ഇരുവരും കരഞ്ഞു. എന്തിനാണ് കരഞ്ഞതെന്ന് അറിയില്ല. അതിനുശേഷം സുഹൃത്തുക്കള്‍ക്കൊപ്പം ഐസ്‌ക്രീം കഴിച്ചശേഷമാണ് ഇവര്‍ സ്‌കൂളില്‍ നിന്നും പോയതെന്നും അവര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു.

മരിച്ച പെണ്‍കുട്ടികള്‍ തമ്മില്‍ സൗഹൃദം മാത്രമായിരുന്നെന്നും ഇവര്‍ തമ്മില്‍ വേര്‍പിരിയാനാവാത്ത ബന്ധമൊന്നുമുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ലെന്നും കോളേജിലെ ഡിപ്പാര്‍ട്ട്‌മെന്റ് ഹെഡ് ജമീല പറഞ്ഞു. ഇവര്‍ക്കൊപ്പം മൂന്നാമതൊരു പെണ്‍കുട്ടിയുണ്ടായിരുന്നെന്ന് അന്ന് അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നെന്നും അവര്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

എം.ഇ.എസ് കോളേജ് വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ഥികളായ സിബാന സണ്ണി, സുനൈന നജ്മല്‍ എന്നിവരാണ് ട്രെയിനിനു മുന്നില്‍ ചാടി ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്തത്. 1996 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ 26 ഇരുവരുടേയും മരണം.

എം.കെ ദാമോദരനെ കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടി സഹായിച്ചതിന്റെ രേഖകള്‍ പുറത്ത്

കോഴിക്കോട്: ഐസ്‌ക്രീം കേസില്‍ മന്ത്രി പി.കെ കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടിയെ പ്രതിചേര്‍ക്കേണ്ടതില്ലെന്ന് നിയമോപദേശം നല്‍കാന്‍ ഇ.കെ നായനാരുടെ ഭരണകാലത്ത് അഡ്വക്കേറ്റ് ജനറലായിരുന്ന എം.കെ ദാമോദരന്‍ കോഴ വാങ്ങിയെന്ന ആരോപണത്തില്‍ പോലീസ് അന്വേഷകസംഘത്തിന് നല്‍കിയ തെളിവുകള്‍ ഇന്ത്യാവിഷന്‍ പുറത്തുവിട്ടു. നിയമോപദേശത്തിന് പ്രത്യുപകാരമായി 32.5 ലക്ഷം രൂപ നല്‍കിയെന്നും അതില്‍ 15 ലക്ഷം എറണാകുളം എം.ജി റോഡിലുള്ള എസ്.ബി.ഐ ശാഖയില്‍ അടച്ചെന്നുമുള്ള കെ.എ റൗഫിന്റെ ആരോപണം എം.കെ ദാമോദരന്റെ ജൂനിയര്‍ അഭിഭാഷകനും അക്കാലത്തെ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സ്റ്റെനോഗ്രാഫറും റഊഫുമായുള്ള സംഭാഷണത്തില്‍ സ്ഥിരീകരിക്കുന്നു.

കേസ് പുറത്തുവന്ന കാലത്ത് കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടി റഊഫിനോടൊപ്പം പലതവണ ദാമോദരനെ കണ്ടുവെന്നും സംഭാഷണങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് വ്യക്തമാണ്. ദാമോദരനും ഭാര്യയും ചേര്‍ന്ന് കാസര്‍കോട് മഞ്ചേശ്വരത്ത് നടത്തുന്ന മലബാര്‍ അക്വാ ഫാമിന്റെ ലോണ്‍ കുടിശ്ശിക തീര്‍ക്കാനാണ് ഈ പണം ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തിയതെന്നും തെളിവുകള്‍ വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നു. മുസ്‌ലിംലീഗ് കാസര്‍കോട് ജില്ലാ വൈസ് പ്രസിഡന്റും ജില്ലാ പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റുമായിരുന്ന മുതിര്‍ന്ന മുസ്‌ലിംലീഗ് നേതാവ് സി. അഹമ്മദ് കുഞ്ഞിയും ഇക്കാര്യം ഇന്ത്യാവിഷന്റെ രഹസ്യക്യാമറയില്‍ സ്ഥിരീകരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. പോലീസ് സംഘം കണ്ടെടുത്ത രേഖകളോടൊപ്പം അഹമ്മദ് കുഞ്ഞിയുടെ പുതിയ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തലും ഇന്ത്യാവിഷന്‍ പുറത്തുവിട്ടു.

തങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് അനുകൂലമായി നിയമോപദേശം നല്‍കാന്‍ നല്‍കിയ കോഴയ്ക്ക് തെളിവ് തേടിയാണ് കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടിയുമായി തെറ്റിപ്പിരിഞ്ഞ കെ.എ റൗഫ്, ഈ വര്‍ഷം ജനുവരി ആദ്യം എം.കെ ദാമോദരന്റെ ജൂനിയര്‍ അഭിഭാഷകന്‍ അഡ്വ. പി.സി ശശിധരനെ കാണാനെത്തുന്നത്. 15 ലക്ഷം രൂപ ദാമോദരന്റെ കമ്പനി അക്കൗണ്ടില്‍ അടയ്ക്കാന്‍ ഓഫീസില്‍ നിന്ന് കൂടെപ്പോയ ഗുമസ്തന്റെ പേരും ടെലഫോണ്‍ നമ്പറും റൗഫ് അന്വേഷിച്ചറിയുന്നതായി ദൃശ്യങ്ങളില്‍ കാണാം. സംഭാഷണത്തിനിടയില്‍ കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടിയും ദാമോദരനും തമ്മിലുള്ള അവിഹിത ഇടപാടുകള്‍ ശശിധരന്‍ തുറന്നുപറയുന്നു. കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടി പണം നല്‍കിയിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കില്‍ ദാമോദരന്റെ വീട് ജപ്തി ചെയ്തുപോകുമായിരുന്നുവെന്നും അഡ്വ. ശശിധരന്‍ പറയുന്നു. കേരള പബ്ലിക് സര്‍വ്വീസ് കമ്മീഷന്റെ മുന്‍ സ്റ്റാന്റിംഗ് കൗണ്‍സല്‍കൂടിയാണ് അഡ്വ. ശശിധരന്‍

എറണാകുളം എം.ജി റോഡിലുള്ള എസ്.ബി.ഐ ശാഖയില്‍ ദാമോദരന്റെ കമ്പനി അക്കൗണ്ടില്‍ പണം അടയ്ക്കാന്‍ തന്നോടൊപ്പം വന്നുവെന്ന് കെ.എ റൗഫ് അവകാശപ്പെടുന്ന സതീഷ് വര്‍മ്മയെ റഊഫ് കണ്ടുമുട്ടുന്നത് തന്റെ ബി.എം.ഡബ്ല്യു കാറില്‍ വച്ചാണ്. ബാങ്കില്‍ പോയ കാര്യവും അക്കൗണ്ടിന്റെ പേരും സതീഷ് ഓര്‍മ്മിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നു. 15 ലക്ഷം രൂപ നല്‍കിയ ശേഷം എണ്ണിത്തീര്‍ക്കാന്‍ സമയമില്ലാത്തതിനാല്‍ റസീപ്റ്റ് പിന്നീട് പോയി വാങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നുവെന്നും സതീഷ് വര്‍മ്മ ക്യാമറയില്‍ പറയുന്നു.

പ്രസിഡന്റുമായിരുന്നു സി. അഹമ്മദ് കുഞ്ഞി. ഇപ്പോള്‍ സജീവ രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് മാറി മഞ്ചേശ്വരത്ത് അരിഷ്ട കട നടത്തുകയാണ് അഹമ്മദ് കുഞ്ഞി. എം.കെ ദാമോദരന്‍ മലബാര്‍ അക്വാ ഫാം തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോള്‍ മന്ത്രി പി.കെ കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടി തന്നെ വിളിച്ചിരുന്നതായും സീരിയസായി സഹായിക്കണമെന്ന് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടതായും രഹസ്യക്യാമറയില്‍ തുറന്നുപറയുന്നു. ഐസ്‌ക്രീം കേസില്‍ നിയമപരമായ സഹായം നല്‍കിയതിന് പകരം കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടി ദാമോദരനെ സഹായിച്ചുവെന്നും അഹമ്മദ് കുഞ്ഞി പറയുന്നു. ഇക്കാര്യങ്ങള്‍ പുറത്തുവന്നാല്‍ അവര്‍ തന്നെ കൊല്ലുമെന്നും അഹമ്മദ് കുഞ്ഞി പറയുന്നു. ദാമോദരന് വേണ്ടി സഹായം ചെയ്യാന്‍ കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടി പറഞ്ഞതനുസരിച്ച് ചെര്‍ക്കളം അബ്ദുള്ള തന്നെ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് വിളിപ്പിച്ചതായും അഹമ്മദ്കുഞ്ഞി പറയുന്നു.

1993ല്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ മലബാര്‍ അക്വാഫാം ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഏറെക്കുറെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം നിര്‍ത്തിയ അവസ്ഥയിലാണ്. എം.കെ ദാമോദരന്റെ ഭാര്യ സാറാമ്മ എന്ന ശാന്തിയുടെ സഹോദരന്‍ വിനോദ് മാത്യുവാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഫാം നോക്കി നടത്തുന്നത്.

പ്രവര്‍ത്തന നഷ്ടം നേരിടാന്‍ മലബാര്‍ അക്വാ ഫാം മറ്റൊരു സ്ഥാപനത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് 15 ലക്ഷം രൂപ കൈപ്പറ്റിയതായി തെളിയിക്കുന്ന രേഖകളും ഇന്ത്യാവിഷന്‍ പുറത്തുവിട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഫാമിന്റെ 1998-99ലെ വാര്‍ഷിക റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടിനോട് അനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള ഡയറക്‌ടേഴ്‌സ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടിലാണ് മറ്റൊരു സ്ഥാപനത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് 15 ലക്ഷം രൂപ കൈപ്പറ്റിയെന്ന് പറയുന്നത്. ഈ പണം തങ്ങള്‍ നല്‍കിയതാണെന്ന റൗഫിന്റെ മൊഴി തെളിയിക്കാനാണ് പോലീസ് അന്വേഷകസംഘം ഇപ്പോള്‍ ശ്രമിക്കുന്നത്.

ഐസ്‌ക്രീം കേസില്‍ കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടിയെ പ്രതിചേര്‍ക്കാമെന്ന കല്ലട സുകുമാരന്റെ റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടിനെ മറികടക്കാന്‍ അഡ്വക്കേറ്റ് ജനറല്‍ എന്ന നിലയില്‍ നിയമോപദേശം നല്‍കിയതിന് എം.കെ ദാമോദരന്‍ കോഴ പറ്റിയെന്നാണ് ആരോപണം. ദാമോദരന്റെ നിയമോപദേശത്തിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തിലാണ് കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടിക്ക് അനുകൂലമായ സത്യവാങ്മൂലം അന്നത്തെ എ.ഡി.ജി.പി ജേക്കബ് പുന്നൂസ് സുപ്രീംകോടതിയില്‍ നല്‍കിയത്.

കഴിഞ്ഞ നിയമസഭാ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിന് മുമ്പ് ശേഖരിച്ച തെളിവുകള്‍ മുഴുവന്‍ സംപ്രേഷണം ചെയ്യുന്നതിന് പകരം, ഇന്ത്യാവിഷന്‍ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി വി.എസ്.അച്യുതാനന്ദന് കൈമാറുകയാണ് ചെയ്തത്. അഞ്ചരമണിക്കൂര്‍ വരുന്ന ഒളിക്യാമറാ ദൃശ്യങ്ങളില്‍ എം.കെ.ദാമോദനുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ഒമ്പത് മിനിറ്റ് ദൃശ്യങ്ങളാണ് ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഇന്ത്യാവിഷന്‍ പുറത്തുവിട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്.

ഐസ്‌ക്രീം കേസിലെ പുതിയ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തലുകള്‍ മുഖവിലക്കെടുക്കുന്നില്ല

മലപ്പറം: ഐസ്‌ക്രീം പാര്‍ലര്‍ പെണ്‍വാണിഭകേസുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് ലീഗിനെതിരെ ഇന്ന് ചാനലുകളിലൂടെ രംഗത്തുവന്ന കാസര്‍കോടുളള സി.അഹമ്മദ് കുഞ്ഞി 72ല്‍ പാര്‍ട്ടിയില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറത്തുപോയ ആളാണെന്ന് ലീഗ് ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി കെ.പി.എ മജീദ് പറഞ്ഞു. വിവിധ പാര്‍ട്ടികളില്‍ നിന്ന് തെറ്റിപോകുന്നവരൊക്കെ വിളിച്ച് പറയുന്നത് ചര്‍ച്ച ചെയ്യപ്പെടാന്‍ ഒരുങ്ങിയാല്‍ സിപിഎമ്മില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറത്തായ ഷാജഹാന്‍ വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നതെല്ലാം അച്യുതാനന്ദനെതിരെ ചര്‍ച്ച ചെയ്യപ്പെടേണ്ടതുണ്ടെന്നും 15 കൊല്ലമായി അത്രയും തന്നെ കോടതികള്‍ കയറിയിറങ്ങിയ ഐസ്‌ക്രീം കേസിലെ ആവര്‍ത്തിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ആരോപണങ്ങള്‍ ലീഗ് മുഖവിലക്കെടുക്കുന്നില്ലെന്നും അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.

തങ്ങള്‍ സഹായിച്ചിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കില്‍ രണ്ട് സീറ്റ് പോലും നിയമസഭാ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ ലീഗിന് ലഭിക്കുമായിരുന്നില്ലെന്ന കാന്തപുരം അബൂബക്കര്‍ മുസ്്‌ല്യാരുടെ പ്രസ്താവനയെ ലീഗ് കാര്യമാക്കുന്നില്ല. നിരവധി പാര്‍ട്ടികള്‍ ഇത്തരം അവകാശവാദവുമായി രംഗത്തുവന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. ലീഗിന്റെ അഞ്ചാംമന്ത്രി നിയമസഭാ സമ്മേളനം കഴിഞ്ഞാലുടന്‍ പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെടുമെന്നും ആര്‍ക്കും ഇക്കാര്യത്തില്‍ ആശങ്ക വേണ്ടെന്നും മജീദ് പറഞ്ഞു.

കേസില്‍ മന്ത്രി കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടിക്ക് അനുകൂലമായി നിയമോപദേശം നല്‍കിയ മുന്‍ അഡ്വക്കേറ്റ് ജനറല്‍ എം.കെ ദാമോദരനെ സഹായിക്കണമെന്ന് കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടിയുടെ ആവശ്യപ്രകാരം ചെര്‍ക്കളം അബ്ദുല്ല തന്നോട് അഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥിച്ചതായി മുസ്്‌ലീംലീഗ് കാസര്‍കോട് മുന്‍ ജില്ലാ വൈസ്‌പ്രസിഡന്റ് സി.അഹമ്മദ് കുഞ്ഞി ഇന്ന് രാവിലെ ഒരു സ്വകാര്യ ചാനലിനോട് വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നു. മലബാര്‍ അക്വാഫാം തുടങ്ങുമ്പോള്‍ മഞ്ചേശ്വരം പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റ് കൂടിയായിരുന്നു സി.അഹമ്മദ് കുഞ്ഞി.

എം.കെ ദാമോദരനും ഭാര്യക്കും പങ്കാളിത്തമുള്ള മലബാര്‍ അക്വാഫാമിന്റെ പേരില്‍ കൊച്ചി എം.ജി റോഡിലെ എസ്.ബി.ഐ അക്കൗണ്ടില്‍ 15 ലക്ഷം രൂപ നിക്ഷേപിച്ചതായി ദാമോദരന്റെ ജൂനിയര്‍ അഭിഭാഷകനും ഗുമസ്തനും നടത്തിയ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തലുകളും ചാനല്‍ ഇന്ന് രാവിലെ പുറത്തുവിട്ടിരുന്നു.

Tips to improve Fuel Economy.

Here are some very good tips on improving your vehicle's Fuel Economy / Increase Fuel Efficiency / Mileage. With increasing fuel prices it is becoming more and more prudent to use them.

Use your gears wisely. Driving in the highest gear possible without labouring the engine is a fuel-efficient way of driving. A vehicle travelling at 60kmph in third gear uses 25 percent more fuel than at the same speed in fifth gear

Drive smoothly Think ahead! By applying light throttle and avoiding heavy braking, you can reduce both fuel consumption and wear and tear. Try to predict traffic at junctions and when in queuing to avoid accelerating and then braking. Research suggests driving techniques can influence car fuel efficiency by as much as 30 percent.

Switch off your engine There are two schools of thought on this one. Switching your engine off for short periods of time can actually increase fuel consumption, as it requires more fuel to get the engine started. Also your catalytic converter will no longer be running at full temperature and so your car will be less efficient, increasing the amount of pollution you cause. However if you are stopped for more than a few minutes then your car will simply burn less fuel with the engine stopped.

Drive off promptly to prevent wasting fuel Don't leave your engine running when you first start up. Drive off straight away if you can, but drive gently until the engine has reached its normal operating temperature. This doesn't increase fuel efficiency as such, but it does mean your engine is switched on for less time.

Lighten your load Think carefully about what you need on a journey. if you do not need something, do not pack it. Remove roof racks if not needed. The lighter the load, the lower the fuel consumption, and emissions, and the higher the fuel efficiency.

Tyres effect fuel efficiency It is estimated that about 50% of tyres on the road are under inflated. Aside from increasing the rate of wear, this wastes fuel and decreased your fuel efficiency. Check your tyre pressures every fortnight. Worn tyres will also decrease fuel efficiency (and your safety!), so check the tread regularly. If you are replacing tyres then consider some of the newer 'Eco' tyres that are designed specifically to increase fuel efficiency.

Car Windows Driving with your windows open drastically reduces your fuel efficiency, far more so than putting the air conditioning on when motorway driving. So in those hot summers(?) preferably keep the windows shut, and the air conditioning on if you want to keep cool. Of course the air conditioning decreases fuel efficiency too, so try not to over use it.

Invest in a new fuel efficient car New cars come in all shapes and sizes, but it is possible to pick a new car that can greatly reduce your fuel bill, and your fuel emissions.

Size matters. Choose an economical car - small cars use far more fuel efficient and produce lower emissions than large cars.

Drive the most fuel-efficient car that meets your needs. Compare models and classes. Even similarly sized cars can vary in fuel efficiency by up to 45%.

Consider diesel engines (with a particulate trap), and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) fuelled cars - all have lower CO2 emissions than standard petrol cars.

Consider 'hybrid' vehicles - they combine a conventional engine with an electric motor and battery. These offer reduced fuel consumption and CO2 with potentially lower emissions of all pollutants.

Diesel Engines If your going to buy a diesel, ensure it is a new 'common rail' type, as these are approximately 10% more efficient than older diesels. also replace (or clean if applicable) air cleaner elements as often as is required by your vehicles servicing schedule.

Regluar Maintenance maintains fuel efficiency

Air Filter: One of the most common reasons for a drop in fuel efficiency is a dirty intake filter. This will decrease the amount of air entering the cylinders of the engine resulting in incomplete combustion. Check the filter regularly to ensure that it is clean.

Spark Plugs Ensure your spark plugs are in good condition. Renew the plugs and wires at intervals specified by the owners manual. This will keep all cylinders firing properly resulting in higher efficiency.

Lube Oil: Change the lube oil at intervals specified by the owners manual. Use the recommended oil only especially in newer cars. Use of an engine flush before changing the oil will help to get rid of a lot of the dirt that collects in the engine that a normal oil change will not remove. On older engines it is advisable to use an oil treatment agent. This basically thickens the oil which creates a better seal between the piston and the liner, preventing blow past and consequent loss of combustion pressure, resulting in higher fuel efficiency.

Exhausts alter fuel efficiency Most cars have special sizes for the exhaust. When cars are reasonably old the silences has to be changed. The garage people always try to fit a size that they have in the garage it self. Which might not be the exact size recommended for the car. The wrong size a bigger or smaller silencer size effects on the MPG of the car and the HP of the car. It may be cheaper to put another size than your recommended size for your car but on the long run it will cost you in many ways, especially on fuel consumption. Always put the recommended size of the exhaust that is indicated in your car manual because the car company knows how to optimize the performance of your car.
